E-booklet: The Options and Future for Honorary Positions
As thank-yous, engagement, celebrations and promotion in project management communities
Honorary Positions – what next?
We’ve been thinking!
Many, many years ago project management was in its infancy. It was knocking on the door to be recognised as a profession. It was creating associations of like-minded people in countries around the world. These people wanted membership grades, qualifications, titles. And they wanted progress for these services and products to be improved and updated year by year, decade by decade.
Gosh! This is still happening!
Many PM associations and their members also wanted to recognise outstanding achievements and to provide awards, prizes, titles and celebrations of these outstanding achievements – and to keep them up to date and relevant also.
They wanted to openly announce and publicise these achievements within PPPM communities, with customers and stakeholders, and the general public – to increase the recognition and take up of project management.
Gosh! This is still needed!
One early, established means available was to confer Honorary Memberships or Honorary Fellowships on deserving candidates – often or usually the great and good within our communities.
We started thinking about how and if these honorary positions might also need to keep up with the times. And we discovered that they have been! Or certainly are capable of changes and refinements. Although they are not always recognised and adopted by all organisations and not always applied as fully as they could be.
We thought we would write up the research and thinking into a stimulating booklet and make it available to people and organisations who might be interested – including such as the boards and committees within Membership Associations (MAs) of IPMA.
And here it is as a free downloadable pdf.
Best wishes.
Tom Taylor.
