Strategies for Project Sponsorship

In recent blogposts we already highlighted the importance of project sponsorship. The book “Strategies for Project Sponsorship” addresses the challenges of sponsorship from all three vantage points – that of the project manager, the project sponsor and the organisation. In a nutshell, project sponsorship is an active senior management role, identifying the business needs, ensuring the project remains a viable proposition and supporting the project manager in all regards. Unfortunately, many of these project sponsors do not know how to perform their role. They might not be trained by the organisation to perform the role, they might be overwhelmed by other tasks or the organisation fails to execute its governance arrangements. It requires the establishment of a good relation between the project manager and the sponsor. The book provides great insights for project managers handling their sponsors and for sponsors performing the role for the first time in their life through difficult situations. Managers of an organisation responsible for the development of project management may learn how to establish and develop good project sponsorship.  Congratulations to the authors, Vicki James, Ron Rosenhead and Peter Taylor, for the real-world sponsorship experiences, as well as tips, techniques, and tools, provided through the book.
