pma award 2015: Ovations for Excellent Project Management
On November 25th, 2015 the winners of the pma awards 2015 were announced during a gala ceremony in Vienna, Austria. The ceremony honoured nominees and winners in the categories “project manager of the year” and “pma junior award” for excellent project management. The “project manager of the year 2015” went to Nina Bauer, project manager at VAMED. She received the award for her IT project for the public prosecutor’s office (led through for her former employer BRZ) and for her excellent performance during the level B-Certification.
The pma junior award 2015 was awarded to a team of students of MCI (Management Center Innsbruck) for their project “Traumberuf Sozialarbeit” (dreamjob social work). Goals of the project were the development, implementation and scientific evaluation of social work. The jury was especially impressed by the convincing learning curve of the team. They had started the project without any professional project management which brought the project to the brink of failure. They then started to use various project management methods and tools. And they were successful! The team showed extraordinary commitment to all stakeholders and managed these special relations very sensitively. The overall excellent performance was topped off by a perfect project documentation. They really are worthy winners!
The aim of the pma awards is to increase public awareness for excellent project management. Above all, these awards acknowledge the performance of the winners who deliver outstanding performance in their professional fields. I expecially want to thank the teachers of the nominees and winners of the pma junior award for doing such an exceptional job in teaching and coaching their students. With youth development being a core goal of pma’s activities, the pma junior award is only one of our youth development initiatives. In addition, we cooperate with schools, colleges and universities, and provide support for students during their bachelor and/or master theses. With the pma young crew we offer a platform with special events for young professionals under the age of 30. But I think that the most important thing is for senior project managers to understand themselves as role models for junior project managers. And that we “seniors” help our young colleagues with their first steps in project management and support them to find their place in our industry.

Brigitte Schaden is acting President of Projekt Management Austria (pma), Austria’s largest project management association and IPMA® member association. She also holds the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of GAPPS (Global Alliance for Project Performance Standards), leads through IPMA® certifications as International Assessor on a global scale and has given speeches on six continents. As Managing Director of BSConsulting, she advises national and international corporations, organisations and individuals on a wide range of topics. She gives also lectures at several universities in Austria and is part of the expert network enable2change. Before being named President of pma in 2003, Brigitte Schaden successfully built a career in the international quality- and project management industry. Brigitte Schaden fulfilled various functions within the IPMA®, including four years as Vice President for Certification. From 2009 to 2010 she acted as the organisation’s first female President.
