IPMA launches the newly revised Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct
As IPMA marks its 60th anniversary, we proudly introduce the newly revised IPMA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct — a document first published in 2015 during the 50th Anniversary, and now strengthened to reflect today’s global challenges and the evolving responsibilities of project professionals.
Revised and approved by the IPMA Council of Delegates, the new Code expands the core principles of integrity, accountability, transparency, and respect with essential commitments to sustainability, diversity, equity and inclusion, decent work, and responsible leadership. It sets clear expectations for everyone working within IPMA, within IPMA Member Associations, or within any organisation or project environment that has adopted the Code.
Speaking about the importance of the revised Code, Prof. Dr. Mladen Vukomanović, IPMA President, stated:
“Ethics is the truest measure of leadership. As project professionals, we do more than deliver outcomes — we shape how those outcomes influence people, society, and the planet. With this revised Code, IPMA reinforces a simple truth: sustainability, integrity, and inclusion are not aspirations, but obligations. They define who we are, how we lead, and the legacy we leave behind.”
The Code outlines minimum duties toward project owners and sponsors, teams, stakeholders, society, and the natural environment. It reinforces our collective responsibility to act with respect, fairness, cultural sensitivity, and professional courage — especially in environments facing ethical dilemmas, social inequities, or environmental pressures.
With this revision, IPMA renews its long-standing commitment to advancing responsible, ethical, and future-ready project management worldwide.
