IPMA Advocates for Project Management Excellence and Sustainability at Hungary-Serbia Railway Megaproject

IPMA continues to champion project management excellence and sustainable practices on a global scale. In a significant move to foster global partnerships and networking, IPMA Vice Presidents Prof. Dr. DING Ronggui and Prof. Dr. Vladimir Obradovic recently met with representatives from China Railway No.9 Engineering Group in Hungary. The meeting included a visit to the megaproject site of the Hungary Section of the Hungary-Serbia Railway.

This high-profile infrastructure project by China Railway No.9 Engineering Group has garnered attention for its commitment to the ESG criteria. A milestone was achieved on March 17, 2024, when the final version of the Environmental Assessment Report for the Hungary-Serbia Railway was submitted to Hungarian authorities for approval. The project, which commenced on July 6, 2020, faced numerous challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, the project team successfully initiated the environmental impact assessment, conducting comprehensive fieldwork including data collection, model creation, plotting, and reporting.

During the visit, Prof. Dr. DING Ronggui, IPMA Vice President for Research and Publications, and Prof. Dr. Vladimir Obradovic, IPMA Vice President for Finance & Operations, engaged in fruitful discussions with the China Railway No.9 Engineering Group. The dialogue focused on the critical importance of competences in sustainable project management practices. Additionally, the IPMA representatives highlighted relevant IPMA products and services from the IPMA Ecosystem that can support infrastructure megaprojects in achieving project management excellence and delivering societal benefits.

Both parties expressed a strong interest and willingness to explore further partnership opportunities. This collaboration aims to leverage the strengths of both organizations to enhance sustainable project management practices globally.
